The Association of Latvian Academic Libraries (LATABA) was founded on 11 October,1994 by 10 libraries. Currently there are 23 libraries in the Association.
The goals of the LATABA are the following:
- to encourage the development and cooperation among the special libraries and the libraries of Latvian universities,
- to ensure an optimal informative procurement for the Latvian science,higher education and national economy,
- to consolidate the special libraries and the libraries of Latvian universities which are the members of the Association and have similar informative and scientific goals and tasks.
Since 2005 LATABA has been a full-fledged member of EBLIDA (European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Association).
Since 2006 LATABA is the member of the Union of the European Scientific Libraries LIBER (The Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche).
